Did You Hear The One About Two Men And A Truck? Two Men and a Truck Moving Company

Two Men and a Truck Moving Company

I have moved many times over the years. When I was in the military, I enjoyed the full service treatment from moving companies contracted by the Government to get my stuff from Point A to Point B. After leaving the military my junk became my responsibility. To save money, I have used many different moving companies including U-Haul, Budget and ABF. I recently moved a three bedroom home a short distance and decided to find out how much it would be to have the move done for me. What I discovered was pleasantly surprising.

I have accumulated a lot of stuff over the years. It is a hassle to move it all. To rent a truck large enough to move all of my household belongings to a neighboring community was going to set me back close to four hundred dollars plus fees for moving blankets, fees for wrapping paper and fees for hand-trucks (not to mention fuel…which could be a small fortune). I have a nearly new HE Washer and Dryer set that I was particularly leery about moving myself. I contacted Two Men and a Truck to get a moving estimate. Based on the size of my load, my cost was estimated at six hundred dollars. Two Men and a Truck charge an hourly rate in my area of one hundred dollars plus an additional one hundred dollar fee that is charged to cover their transportation costs.

What I got for my money made this move well worth it. Two Men and a Truck scheduled my movers to arrive between nine and ten in the morning. They arrived shortly after nine. The movers backed into my driveway and took a quick tour of the house to see what needed to be moved. After making a brief assessment of the load, the two workers immediately went to work loading the truck. They worked effortlessly as individuals, yet coordinated in their efforts when needed. My furniture was either wrapped in plastic wrap or covered in moving blankets which they brought an ample supply of. Rolls of tape were used in abundance to secure anything that needed to additional securing. The boxes and furniture were loaded on the truck with precision, maximizing the space available in the truck. As a guy who has loaded many moving trucks over the years, I was impressed with the use of space and sturdiness of the packing job.

A three bedroom house was efficiently loaded onto the truck in just about two hours. There were some items that I moved personally that I didn’t want to chance on the truck…it wouldn’t have fit anyway…so the calculations on the amount of space needed were fairly close, but it would not have all fit if I hadn’t planned to move some of the stuff myself. Having said that, I probably have more junk than the average three bedroom house so that really isn’t something that I can hold Two Men and a Truck accountable. They make the estimates based on the information you provide on the telephone. Without a site survey it is difficult to accurately assess the amount of space needed. In any event, everything I wanted them to move fit on the truck…and it was a lot of stuff.

When we arrived at the new house, the offloading went just as quick. The Driver of my truck had a family emergency and a new driver had taken his place. The new driver was fast and friendly but not nearly as graceful when handling my belongings. Although he didn’t show my property complete disregard, he left a few nicks and scratches on the walls. That bothered me a little bit. As the property came of the truck, I identified the location for the individual pieces. The guys made short work of finding the proper location and depositing each piece. The offload took another two hours. With the drive time, fee and loading and unloading time my total came to five hours labor plus the transportation fee…or six hundred dollars. Exactly what I was quoted.

When the offload was completed, the new driver provided me with paperwork that needed to be completed, outlining the charges and total. The six hundred dollar total was one item that really gave me some relief. If these workers had dragged their feet or even stopped to take frequent breaks, the total could easily have been more. I felt it was a crap shoot going in, but trusted the estimate provided by the company. That was a good choice. The job came in exactly as quoted which means that I probably only paid a few dollars more for Two Men and a Truck than I would have to move myself using U-Haul (after renting the handtruck and moving blankets). Additionally, I had basic insurance coverage of sixty cents per pound which came with the job. Additional insurance can be purchased for a fee.

After unpacking several boxes and seeing the moving blankets removed from the furniture, it appears that my household goods made it to their new location without suffering any damage. Although there are a few nicks on my walls that will require some spackle and touch up paint, I am relieved that I didn’t have to move all that stuff myself. I was also happy with the price, the friendliness of the crew and the speed with which the job was completed. My only complaint was a couple of wall dings which is minor in the greater scheme of things….I probably would have experienced a few finger and toe dings if I had done the move myself…a good trade-off in my book. I would give Two Men and a Truck four and a half stars out of a possible five…which I will round up to five stars (giving them the benefit of the doubt for the dings) since the database doesn’t allow for half stars. Great job.
