I found ABF/U-Pack to be great value for the money, and provided excellent customer service.
I could not have a trailer delivered to my apartment because of parking rules, and ABF had an option to pack my belongings at their facility. Every person I interacted with was friendly and professional. There were no surprises at all and all costs were clearly laid out.
The way ABF operates is that if there is unused space on the trailer, they use that space for commercial goods. This created a problem at the destination end of my move, as the commercial goods had shifted in transit, and had slightly bent the bars on the barrier separating my goods from the commercial frieght.
ABF sent out a mechanic within 20 minutes to fix the problem, and none of my goods were damaged. I’ll definately use them again in the future.
The cost to ship my goods from Los Angeles to New York with UPACK was $3000 for 15 ft of space on their truck. The closest competing bid I got from a full service mover was $6000. The net savings for the move was less than $3000, as I had to hire a van to move my property to the ABF terminal for packing, but I easily saved $2000 for my move. If you have the time to pack it yourself, and friends to help you pack the truck, this is an excellent way to save money.
