Allied Van Lines

Four men arrived at my home and immediately went about their business. I was impressed at first. I showed them what items were to stay… two sofas and a wall of things at the end of the room. In addition to that a bedroom full of furniture. They seemed to get that and were fine. Part way into the move I noticed that one of the men had thrown an expensive quilt which had been in an upstairs guest room onto the living room sofa. I was not very happy about that since the sofa was very old and covered with cat hair. The quilt was a showpiece which had never been used or taken off of the quilt rack. I decided not to say anything since they could not possibly have known why I did not want the sofa. About the same time I noticed the quilt one of the men entered the room pointed to the quilt and said “That’s a nice quilt on that sofa. You don’t want that quilt”? I told him that I did not know who put the quilt on the sofa but that I most certainly did want it. The quilt would serve as a showpiece in the Bed and Breakfast I was opening. I repeated that the sofa was to stay but the quilt was to go to my new home.

Forty-eight hours later the truck arrived at my new home. When the men were loading my things back at the old house I was asked about the driveway at the new house. I told the man I believed the driveway was to narrow for the truck. Upon arrival he decided the driveway was not to narrow and backed the truck in. The result was a damaged lawn on both sides of my driveway since the driveway was indeed to narrow.

The men proceeded to unload my things. It was obvious they were in a hurry and wanted to start the 6 hour drive back to Allentown. They did not bother to unpack any of the boxes they had packed and although they had originally asked where I wanted the boxes I guess at some point they decided it was just too much trouble because things that should have been in the house I found in the garage and so forth. When I attempted to put sheets on one of the beds a couple of days later the headboard fell away from the bed. I bent down to look underneath and found the nuts and bolts had been left under the bed. Several days later once all of the boxes had been unpacked I realized that my quilt was not there. In addition to that I picked up a floor lamp which was still where the men had left it and the bottom fell away. Upon inspection I found that the base had been broken away from the pole. Several large outdoor Christmas decorations were shoved into boxes in such a way that when I attempted to get them out there was no way to do so without breaking them. some were already broken as they were shoved in.

I contacted Allied Obriens about these things and was very disappointed at the response. I was treated as though either the quilt never existed or I somehow forgot or lost it. There has to date not been any kind of offer to reimburse or make good on my quilt or any of the damages. All of the men had claimed to not know of or remember any such quilt. After I told Scott of the conversation I had with one of his men about the quilt the man suddenly remembered the quilt but claims he does not know what happened to it. The quilt was there when the men arrived and gone when the men left with my belongings. Unfortunately it never arrived at my new house.
