U-Pack wouldn’t be the appropriate moving company for everyone, but for a small move out-of-state it was perfect. We were considering renting a truck and hauling our mom’s things ourselves, but in view of the gas prices and the labor involved, I began to inquire of major moving companies. To my dismay, there was a lot of uncertainty about the final price, the pickup dates, and especially the delivery dates. It made me uneasy, as I am, like most people, interested in knowing what I’m buying before I purchase. Then someone mentioned U-Pack, and they fit our bill perfectly. We were not so concerned about insurance for potential breakage, and the load of things was rather small– in fact, everything fit into one cube. Considering gas prices, our rate was less than if we had rented a truck and driven ourselves. The company did everything it said it would do, and on the receiving end, the man who delivered the cube actually waited until my brothers had emptied the cube for my mom– less than 1/2 hour– and took the cube back with him! I hired a local hourly moving company to load the cube on this end, just for convenience, and of course their price was reasonable because of the size of the load. They had almost finished in a half hour because of their expertise in shrink-wrapping and bubble-wrapping, and in the use of ropes to tie things in. But for some people, this might have been an extravagance. Oh, and location did not seem to be a major problem. Our delivery site was rather remote– off the beaten path. PODS did not deliver to that area, as also was true with some of the major moving companies. But U-Pack had a depot very near to my mom’s place.
