If you are considering using ATS to ship a car, my advice is don’t, but if you do then pay the driver with a cashier’s check. Do not attempt to pay ATS with a credit card!

My mother shipped a car to me across country, and we chose to use ATS based on a recommendation. The priced was reasonable, and my mother said that Randy seemed nice. I requested that she give him my credit card as payment, since she had arranged the contract, and she did so just prior to the car being picked up. She told this to the driver, who had been subcontracted by ATS, and attempted to call the receptionist at the driver’s office to verify that they had received the payment, but her call was not returned. Regardless, everything seemed to be going well until Sunday evening, when the receptionist contacted her and I in turn to tell us that in fact the payment information had not been sent to her by ATS, and that if the driver did not receive cash or a cashier’s check by 9am the next morning my car would be taken back across country.

I checked with my bank, and was able to verify that my credit card had been charged, but when I told this to the woman she said that she did not care, and I would still need to find the cash or cashier’s check by 9am the next morning if I wanted to get the car. Since it was Sunday night, the only option I had was to get cash, which I was unwilling to do. After quite a lot of time and yelling, she agreed to give me until 10am, and so I ran around town, purchased a money order to pay again a large fee that had already been charged, made many calls to attempt to reverse the charge on my credit card, then waited until after noon for the trucker to arrive! When I went to meet him, he told me that they had finally verified that I had paid, and I had to then cash out the money order and return to my bank to re-deposit the funds. I sent an email to Randy expressing how frustrated I was, and received no response! I did not even get an apology.

I realize that the company that ATS subcontracted with was also at fault, but my family’s contract was with ATS, and it was their responsibility to either refuse the credit card if it was in fact too late, or communicate that payment had been made to the trucking company before leaving for the weekend. To add one more insult to an already ludicrous situation, in one communication ATS claimed that the credit card payment was submitted after the car had been picked up, and implied that it had been submitted over the weekend, which is not true. Although I did not trust ATS after what happened, and was offended to receive no word, no apology after all of that, to be lied to in such a blatant and petty way was just unbelievable. Although the service was rendered (I got my car, and it was unharmed) I can’t believe how I was treated, and would definitely not recommend this company.
