Not too long ago I decided that I would move from where I was living in a suburb of Milwaukee, to an area out a little bit more towards the country. After the closing of my new house, the only problem I had was, how I was going to move everything from the house I was currently living in, over to my new place.
I had quite a few friends that I had helped move before, as well as a relative or two that I figured would owe me the return favor of helping me move all my stuff. I decided that before I called all my friends and relatives to help me move, and to listen to their lame excuses as to why they wouldn’t be able to show up on my moving day, that I’d first give a call to Two Men and a Truck to get a quote from them.
When I called Two Men and a Truck the person on the end of the phone was very helpful. She explained that the rates were $100 per hour (this rate will vary by your location) for any moving services that I would need. These services not only included the physical moving of my household items, but the driving time as well. The person I spoke with also said that if I had the need, they would also help me pack and unpack my smaller items in boxes. I didn’t need the extra help packing my stuff into boxes, but it’s nice to know that they have this service available as well. I figure that at $100 an hour it wasn’t a bad rate, and while I was on the phone I was able to book an appointment for my moving day. This required a deposit on my credit card which was fine with me. The person that I was on the phone with was also very helpful in estimating the amount of time and costs it would take for my move by asking me questions regarding the things in my household. If you have a lot of stuff you can always get two trucks with four men if you so choose. Two Men and a Truck also included a thousand dollars worth of free moving insurance, and did offer more if I chose to purchase it. I chose not to purchase the extra insurance even though I was a little bit worried about my big-screen TV.
I booked my appointment two weeks in advance of my moving day which is something that I would suggest doing to make sure that they have the people and trucks available for you. This will also give you plenty of time to get your stuff together by doing things such as packing stuff into boxes. Two Men and a Truck are also able to provide you with boxes for packing as well as other packing supplies if you need them.
On the day of my scheduled move, Two Men and a Truck were supposed to be at my house at 8 a.m. I was pleasantly surprised to see them come driving down my street approximately 10 minutes early. When they arrived at my house, the first thing that the guys did was go inside and survey the moving situation. I guess that they did this to pretty much see how they were going to pack my stuff in the truck. I had already moved most of my smaller stuff in boxes, so all that they were going to have to move was mostly furniture, appliances, as well as the things that were to in my garage.
After they surveyed the moving situation the next thing that they did was bring in some large rolls of plastic shrinkwrap. They used the shrink wrap to help keep the drawers on some of the dressers that I had from opening up as they were being moved. They also wrapped my stove, other appliances, and pretty much anything else that had a drawer or a door on it to keep them from opening up.
They then began bringing my stuff out of the house and putting it into the truck. They seemed to be taking an effort not to damage my items, and they had plenty of blankets that they used to help protect my furniture in the truck while it was being moved. All I can say is that I was very amazed at how the two guys that looked to be approximately 30 years old went about their business. It was a pretty warm day outside, and these guys were really busting their humps and working up a sweat as they worked nonstop loading the truck. The only time they actually stopped working was to stop for a few seconds to drink some of the bottled water that they brought along with them. In a little over three hours time the guys from Two Men and a Truck had completely packed the stuff from my garage and three-bedroom ranch style home and were ready to take off to my new house.
When we arrived at my new house it took only approximately 2 hours to unload the truck. I stood inside and directed them as to which rooms I wanted my items placed in as they worked just as hard unloading my truck as they did loading it. Again I was impressed with their work ethic. Once they had completed the job, they asked me to inspect my things for any damage to report. Upon not seeing any damage, all I needed to do next was sign the bill and they were on their way. Before they left I tipped them $50 for their hard work.
Even though I didn’t see any damage when I inspected my things immediately after they were moved, I did however find a little bit a couple days later. I noticed a few scratches on the headboard of my bed that weren’t there before. I was able to easily fix this by touching them up with some brown wood stain. I wasn’t too terribly upset about this as I realized that it if it would have been my friends and I doing the move, I am sure that we would have caused a lot more damage to my items.
Overall my move ended up costing me $575. This is actually $25 lower than the estimate that I was given when I first booked my appointment with Two Men and a Truck, so I was pretty happy that their estimate was right in the ballpark of what I ended up paying. I feel that the service I got from their company was excellent. The two guys that moved my items worked their tails off, and in my estimate the $100 per hour charge that I paid was well worth the money. If I ever move again, I am sure that I will call Two Men and a Truck because of the great service that they provided me for this move.
